Pulmonary stress testing, also called cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), measures how well your lungs, heart, and muscles work together during physical activity. It helps pinpoint the cause of unexplained shortness of breath and guides treatment planning.
During the test, you exercise on a stationary bike or treadmill while breathing into a mouthpiece. Our team monitors your oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing capacity, and gas exchange in real time. The test is stopped if you feel unwell or when the desired workload is reached.
CPET is useful for evaluating exercise intolerance, distinguishing cardiac from pulmonary causes of breathlessness, assessing fitness before surgery, and monitoring disease progression in conditions such as COPD, pulmonary hypertension, and heart failure.
The test typically takes 30–60 minutes. You may be asked to avoid heavy meals and certain medications beforehand. Our team will provide specific preparation instructions at the time of scheduling.
Bronchoscopy (bron-kos’ko-pi) is a procedure that is done to look at the breathing passages of the lungs (called “airways”).
